Bought this item to address a hammertoe.
I was concerned whether this would work with this boot (as opposed to simply a shoe). The throat on the device (i.e., the distance from the pivot to the ball that does the stretching) is 5 in. It wouldn’t work with high boots, but with these, I'm able to easily reach the necessary spot because the boot tongue moves out of the way.
The challenge: Finding the right spot to stretch. The stretcher creates a bulge about 1 in. in diameter. If you don't pinpoint where you need that bulge, it would be great if you could just expand the bulge, but a redo makes a new 1-inch bulge that doesn't "flow" to the old one. In fact, that old bulge kind of goes away. This meant a few days of trial and error to find the sweet spot.
Finally, after a number of attempts, I got the bulge right where I need it, and the boot is not pressing on the hammertoe.
The test will be to see if the bulge retains its shape after a few days of use. I'll report back.
